About Kalamandalam (What is Kalamandalam)
Formed in the year 1968 by Late Guru Govindan Kutty and Dr. Guru Smt. Thankamani Kutty both alumnus of Kerala Kalamandalam and exponents of Kathakali and Bharatanatyam & Mohiniyattam, Kalamandalam is today one of the leading dance institution imparting Bharatanatyam lessons to more than 1800 students in its rolls with 7 branches spread over the State of West Bengal. The school can boost of having its alumnus all over the world who have set up institutions in Madrid, U.K., USA, Japan, Kuwait and Canada.
Kalamandalam has its own building with hostels, Auditorium, Library and other facilities to help the interested and the needy to grow up into responsible citizens and uphold our Indian Cultural Heritage. Many needy and deserving students are provided training and all sorts of backing to nurture them into responsible future flag bearers of our great Indian Tradition.
The Former Governor of West Bengal Shri M. K. Narayanan is the Chief Patron of Kalamandalam. The Performing Wing of Kalamandalam is registered with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre and Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Govt. of India and also with the West Bengal State Academy, Kolkata of the Govt. of West Bengal.
Kalamandalam has also been granted funds from the MPLAD Scheme for its library. The Kalamandalam Performing Wing has practically perform in almost all the continents of the world.
